Russ Flatt is a photographer with 14 years experience in all forms of the craft.

 

Raised in Auckland, Russ studied photography at the London College of Printing before moving to New York in 1997 where he assisted and began his photography career.

Striking out on his own in 2000, Russ established himself as a successful freelance fashion photographer. His clients in the US included Vogue Homme International, V, I.D and GQ. He also shot portraits of a number of high profile entertainers, including Yoko Ono, Tom Waits, Jim Jarmusch and Julie Delpy. A series of his portraits were exhibited at the prestigious H'yere Festival in 2004.

In 2006, Russ responded to the call of his homeland, returning to Aotearoa to spend more time with the whanau. Based in Auckland, Russ works in freelance fashion and portrait photography. Recently, clients have included Hallensteins, Glassons and Max fashions. 

Since returning home Russ has worked in Sydney and NYC on several occasions. In January 2008 he was invited to be guest photographer on hit reality series "Make Me a Supermodel" in the US which screened in New Zealand in September. Back home he has also appeared on TVNZ show "Good Morning" and 'More FM" talking about his work. Kete Aronui has recently shot a documentary on Russ's life, work and journey back to Aotearoa, which has screened on Maori TV. Also he  has been a guest photographer on New Zealand's Next Top Model for the last three cycles.
